Virus influenza A (H1N1) ialah satu subjenis virus influenza A dan merupakan penyebab yang paling biasa bagi influenza (selesema) di kalangan manusia. Sesetengah jenis H1N1 merupakan endemik dalam manusia dan menyebabkan segelintir daripada kesemua penyakit mirip influenza dan sebahagian besar daripada kesemua influenza bermusim. Jenis-jenis H1N1 menyebabkan kira-kira separuh daripada kesemua jangkitan selesema manusia pada tahun 2006.[1] Jenis H1N1 yang lain merupakan endemik dalam babi (influenza babi) dan dalam burung (influenza burung).
Pada Jun 2009, Pertubuhan Kesihatan Sedunia mengumumkan bahawa selesema yang disebabkan oleh jenis baru H1N1 berpuncakan babi bertanggungjawab bagi pandemik selesema 2009. Jenis ini sering digelar sebagai "selesema babi" oleh media awam.
Tatanama
Jenis-jenis Virus influenza A dikategorikan mengikut dua protein yang didapati pada permukaan virus: hemagglutinin (H) dan neuraminidase (N). Kesemua virus influenza A mengandungi hemagglutinin and neuraminidase, disebabkan oleh mutasi genetik yang pantas dalam genom virus.
Jenis-jenis virus influenza A diberikan satu nombor H dan satu nombor N berdasarkan bentuk apa bagi kedua-dua protein ini didapati. Terdapat 16 subjenis H dan 9 subjenis N diketahui dalam burung, tetapi hanya H 1, 2, dan 3, dan N 1 dan 2 biasa didapati dalam manusia.[3]
