Eucalyptus ialah sebuah genus yang mengandungi 715 spesies pokok-pokok berbunga dan renek dalam keluarga Myrtaceae.[2] Tumbuhan dalam genus Eucalyptus memiliki kulit yang licin, berserabut, keras atau berserat. Daun-daunnya mempunyai kelenjar minyak; sepal dan ranggi bercantum dan membentuk "tetopi" atau operkulum yang melitupi stamen. Buahnya merupakan kapsul berkayu.
Kebanyakan spesies genus Eucalyptus tumbuh asli di benua Australia, pulau-pulau New Guinea dan Indonesia.[3] Banyak spesies Eucalyptus hidup membiasakan diri kepada kebakaran liar dan dapat tumbuh semula daripada benih yang kalis api selepas kebakaran-kebakaran ini berlaku.
