Metaloprotein ialah sebuah istilah bagi protein dengan kofaktor ion logam.[1][2] Banyakprotein yang diketahui tergolonng dalam kumpulan ini. Sebagai contoh, sekurang-kurangnya 1000 protein manusia (daripada sekitar 20,000) domain protein dengan ikatan atom zink[3] walaupun diduga mungkin ada sehingga 3000 metaloprotein zink dalam manusia.[4]
Limpahan
[sunting | sunting sumber]Anggaran menduga bahaw kira-kira separuh daripada semua protein yang wujud memiliki logam.[5] Dalam satu lagi anggaran, sekitar suku hingga sepertiga protein yang wujud memerlukan logam untuk menjalankan fungsinya.[6] Oleh itu, metaloprotein memiliki banyak fungsi dalam sel seperti penyimpanan dan pengangkutan protein.[7] Limpahan metaloprotein ini mungkin telah diwarisi daripada asid amino yang membentuk protein memandangkan protein buatan juga ditemui bersedia berikat dengan atom-atom logam.[8]
